Look out for the next tough-looking bikers you see: They may just be wearing Christian Louboutin’s red-soles shoes. The luxury brand hosted its spring ’17 show in Milan in a private bikers’ club, where much the new collection drew influences from the craft of bike repairing. Think heavy metal studding and burnished leathers.

Dressy styles were dressed down via the theme’s rustic influences. Lace-up brogues had silver studs in lieu of the traditional perforations. Single monk-strap dress shoes were finished in hand-burnished suedes to give it a worn feel. Suede oxfords were laceless and had chain piping.

The sneakers were less tough, more soft. A high-top with floral patchwork was made with leftover pieces of leather from the collection. A pixelated pastel print was applied over python. A new metallic patent was used on sneakers in candy reds and greens, which had an interesting matte effect that made its shine less aggressive.

Louboutin also experimented with pastel scuba-type mesh materials, which were made in Japan. They were used as all-over treatments on low-tops, or as detailing on a high-top with multicolored Strass crystals.

Evening styles remained classic with patent smoking slippers and lace-ups made of a glittery tech fabric. A little bit of flourish came with slippers that had colorful grosgrain striping. Compared to the flamboyancy of the sneakers, the more toned-down offering added some much-needed balance to the season.
